About
The Work Has Changed. The Throughline Has Not.
I am a writer, programmer and strategist who has spent more than 35 years helping people communicate ideas, build platforms and create work with lasting value. My career does not fit neatly into one professional box. That used to require a lengthy explanation. Now I understand that it is the reason clients hire me. I see the message, the audience, the business objective and the technology required to bring them together. I can help someone clarify an idea in a coaching conversation, turn that idea into a book, build the website where the book lives, develop a podcast that expands its reach and create the systems needed to keep the platform moving. Those are not unrelated services. They are different parts of the same work.
A Career Built at the Intersection of Story and Strategy
I began in journalism at the Kalamazoo Gazette, where I learned to ask questions, listen for what matters and organize complicated information so another person can understand it. I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University, with a background that also included computer science. I later earned a master’s degree in advertising and marketing from Northwestern. That combination, storytelling, audience understanding, business strategy and technology, has shaped everything I have done since.
My professional experience has included teaching in multiple university business departments, leading my own communications and media businesses, developing websites and digital systems, coaching professionals, producing media, hosting podcasts and writing books and content for clients whose names may or may not appear on the cover. I have also worked for the following companies: IBM, Walt Disney Co, CBS Studios, Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams, Simon and Schuster. My work has also been sponsored by these and many more companies.
Writing the Work Behind the Work
Ghostwriting requires an unusual combination of confidence and invisibility. The writer must be skilled enough to shape the material but disciplined enough not to take over the client’s voice. The goal is not to make every client sound like the ghostwriter. The goal is to help the client sound like the clearest, strongest version of themselves. I have worked with authors, experts, public figures, medical professionals, coaches, entrepreneurs and organizations to develop books, articles, speeches, educational material, white papers and other long-form content. Some projects begin with a polished outline. Others begin with recordings, transcripts, scattered notes and a sentence that usually sounds something like, “I know what I want to say, but I cannot seem to get it onto the page.” That is a familiar place to begin.
More Than 1,500 Conversations
I entered podcasting in 2009, before everyone and their dental hygienist had a show. Since then, I have produced or hosted more than 1,500 episodes across programs addressing coaching, motherhood, military families, personal growth, leadership, health and professional development. Podcasting taught me how to create trust quickly, prepare for meaningful conversations and recognize the moment when a guest says something far more important than the answer they had planned. It also taught me that a podcast should not exist in isolation. A strong interview can become an article, chapter, video, email, social campaign, teaching tool or business-development asset. The recording is the beginning, not the entire strategy. Want to know more, just go to your favorite listening platform and type in my name or go to Google and type in Sandra Beck Podcasts.
Brands That Have Trusted My Podcasts
A selection of organizations that have advertised across my podcast network includes:
AARP • AG1 • Audible • BetterHelp • Factor • Green Chef • HelloFresh • Honey • Indeed • KiwiCo • LinkedIn • Liquid I.V. • Manscaped • Monarch Money • New Relic • Noom • Nutrafol • OneSkin • Prose • Raycon • Ritual • Stitch Fix • StoryWorth • Talkspace • Upstart • Zocdoc • and many more.
Technology Should Support the Idea
My work in web design and programming grew from a practical problem: good ideas were frequently being weakened by poor execution. A strong message placed on a confusing website is still difficult to understand. A valuable podcast hidden inside an unusable platform is still hard to find. A business with disconnected systems wastes time solving the same problem repeatedly. I develop and improve websites using platforms such as WordPress and Squarespace, organize content, create integrations and build custom digital solutions when an off-the-shelf answer is not enough. I am interested in technology because of what it allows people to accomplish—not because anyone needs another 40-minute conversation about a plugin.
Experience Across Industries
My client and project experience has included work in publishing, entertainment, hospitality, real estate, health and wellness, coaching, technology, agriculture, professional services, nonprofit work and organizational leadership. It has included projects connected with established brands and organizations such as Disney, CBS, Marriott, Keller Williams, RE/MAX, ERA, Century 21, Simon & Schuster and Sotheby’s, as well as individual authors, founders and privately held companies. I have also spent decades supporting military families and military-related communities, work that has been recognized through numerous commendations. The industries change. The central questions remain remarkably consistent:
Why Clients Often Hire Me More Than Once
Most clients come through one door. They hire me to coach them through a decision. Then we discover the message needs work. They hire me to write a book. Then they need an author website and media strategy. They hire me to build a website. Then we realize the podcast, content and customer journey need to be reorganized. Clients stay because I remember the larger vision. They do not have to start from zero each time a new project begins. I understand where the ideas came from, what the audience needs and what the platform is supposed to accomplish.
How I Work
I ask direct questions.
I look for the problem beneath the requested task.
I tell clients when an idea is strong, when it is not ready and when they are trying to solve the wrong problem.
I value strategy, but I also believe something eventually has to be written, recorded, designed, programmed or published.
I am collaborative without becoming vague. I am candid without confusing bluntness with wisdom. I care about the quality of the work and whether it actually serves the person creating it.
A Platform Should Make the Work Possible
Your platform is not merely your website, podcast, book or social following. It is the connected body of work that allows people to understand what you know, why it matters and how they can engage with you. My role is to help you clarify the strategy, shape the story, build the platform and extend the reach of the work.
